Hydrogen Demo Day

ULEMCo was proud to pull together a large group of partners, colleagues and industry experts (pic 1 below) for an impressive demonstration of hydrogen in construction. Working with the Lower Thames Crossing and their tunnelling partner BouyguesTP Murphy, visitors saw hydrogen in real-world applications.

Dual fuel excavators from Flannery and Plantforce – enabled to use hydrogen directly in the engines to displace significant volumes of diesel while retaining operational productivity – were levelling ground for a large new administration building at the Station Road site.

Other highlights of the tour were:

– ULEMCo and PJT Low Carbon Tech’s 100% hydrogen combustion generator, with storage supplied by Luxfer Gas Cylinders

– Live hydrogen refuelling demonstrations using our HyTANKa mobile refueller (pic 2 below), and also a T&M refueller

– Bucher Sweeper’s H2 Max – the HGV road sweeper (pic 3 below) that uses 100% hydrogen for the vacuuming and a dual fuel powertrain

– Other hydrogen-powered vehicles on show such as a Ford Ranger.

Positive reactions were received all round, and a spokesperson for the Hydrogen Energy Association said: “Hydrogen in construction is no longer a future concept. Hydrogen technologies are being deployed today to help decarbonise construction operations and support off-grid power needs.”
