ULEMCo and its partners have been awarded a grant of almost £4.9M from The Department for Energy Security & Net Zero to adapt and develop hydrogen dual-fuel technology for use in construction.
The ‘Element One’ project will enable converted construction plant to use hydrogen, then deploy and demonstrate its operation on-site. The project will also develop a hydrogen manufacturing and supply chain, including off-site and on-site production, off-grid compression, and innovative storage and distribution solutions.
The project will last for approximately two years, and will provide a significant boost to the use of hydrogen in the off-road construction sector.
This initiative follows from ULEMCo’s work with Cementation Skanska announced a year ago (pic).
ULEMCo and its industry leading partners believe that hydrogen has the potential to displace fossil fuels in heavy equipment, and to accelerate this sector’s move towards net zero.
