We are delighted to announce a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Protium, a prominent producer and supplier of renewable green hydrogen. This collaboration marks a pivotal moment in accelerating the uptake of green hydrogen fuel for heavy-duty vehicles and non-road mobile machinery across the UK

The strategic partnership combines ULEMCo’s expertise in converting and developing hydrogen-powered transport and construction solutions, while Protium contributes its robust green hydrogen production and supply capabilities, including from its Pioneer 1 facility.

The agreement solidifies a shared vision to build robust demand for green hydrogen in the transport sector, providing achievable and affordable decarbonisation pathways for our customers.

Under the terms of the MOU, ULEMCo and Protium will jointly explore and develop opportunities across several crucial areas:

  • Green Hydrogen Supply: Working together to supply green hydrogen directly to local transport operators and depots.
  • Hydrogen Powertrain Solutions: Integrating ULEMCo’s hydrogen combustion and fuel cell solutions into a diverse range of vehicle and machinery platforms.
  • Real-World Demonstrations: Collaborating on hydrogen-powered mobility projects to showcase their effectiveness in operational environments.
  • Policy Engagement: Engaging with government bodies to advocate for wider hydrogen adoption and infrastructure rollout.

Jordon Cullen, Commercial Manager, said: “Hydrogen is absolutely essential for decarbonising those sectors where electrification simply isn’t a practical solution. We are incredibly excited to be collaborating with Protium to deliver achievable and affordable solutions, helping our customers decarbonise now. This partnership clearly demonstrates our commitment to supporting a clean energy transition right across the UK.”

“This MOU marks a major step forward in building a clean, hydrogen-powered transport ecosystem for Wales and South England,” said Jon Constable, COO at Protium. “Our green hydrogen will help decarbonise transport, support local industry, and contribute to net zero goals.”

This collaboration will be instrumental in helping to establish a clean, hydrogen-powered transport ecosystem, particularly in Wales and South England. It directly supports the Welsh Government’s ambitions to transform South Wales into a leading hub for low-carbon industry and innovation.
